Falling (2024)
Falling is a mixed-media installation: 35mm colour slides of Performance to Camera, Slide projector, Found Earth and Tray.
Dimensions variable.

Falling is a performance-to-camera artwork. Twenty-seven colour slides are sequentially projected by a carousel slide projector, surrounded by a ground of collected earth.

Made in the lands of the New Forest at Pigbush, Falling is a meditation on shifting states of reorientation and aliveness. The centre frame, across all slides, is the same fallen tree limb resting on the forest floor. The branch is an object lesson in falling, resting, and the transference of energy, composting through the passage of ecological time.

Listening deeply, learning a new language, the language of decomposition, the artist responds to the qualities of the fallen branch. Circumnavigating the branch through a series of improvised grounded gestures, each slide shows a conjugated posture that echoes the branch's forms and draws attention to the interconnection between living beings. The performance reflects on the possibilities of an intimate dialogue between human and more-than-human bodies.
